The 2800 m long and 500 meters wide Margit-sziget (Margaret island), where the hostel is located, is the most beautiful island in Budapest - which is perfect for those who wish to relax and play sports in its parks. The island was accessible by boat only until 1901, when a wing of the Margaret bridge was built leading it to Buda and Pest, and then from 1950 the Árpád bridge was built on the northern tip. The transport by cars is limited with the exception of the buses No. 26 and 134 and by special license. At the entrance of Árpád bridge there is a toll parking.
You find a lot of fun, culture, sport, tranquility on the spot and even more out of the island in the city, just nearby (read Activities section). On the island there is a sport swimming pool, one of the largest open air "aquapark" (bath complex or water park) in Central Europe, a pet zoo, medieval ruins, a musical fontain, a nice water tower, open air theatre, hotel with health resort, sport club, and maraton track, rent a bikes, etc. (see a summary here).

Ruin pubs - for what the European youth comes to Budapest
"The beginning of the 21st century was an exciting turning point in the nightlife of Budapest: in the central area of the city new places were opened one after another in tenement houses and factory buildings doomed to destruction. These were equipped with rejected furniture of old community centres, cinemas, and grandmothers’ flats, bringing a retro feeling into these places. They were soon called ruinpubs and became popular very fast among the youth of Budapest - ruinpub is the exact translation of the Hungarian name."

Palatinus is just a stone's throw away!
The Open-Air Bath, located on the Margit island, in a nature conservation area, was opened as a beach on the bank of the Danube in 1919. Today Palatinus is a modern complex with 6 swimming and bath pools, the largest in its category in Central Europe and was voted among the most beautiful outdoor pools in the world by Guardian readers in July 2013. It is fun for everyone: for sport men with a 50 and a 44 meters swimming pools, for children with children's pools, one wave pool and a hot thermal bath, excellent for older people but of course, young people visit it too. There are water slides, small snacks and restaurants. Relax, sun bath and pick-nick on the loan, the area is like a park where stepping on the grass is not forbidden.Read more...
Cafés & Restaurants
Coffee culture was thriving in Budapest from around the early 1910’s until the beginning of the 1930’s and around 500 cafés were scattered around the city. They served as common meeting places of writers, poets and artists. Besides artists, ordinary people also visited them for a cup a coffee on Sunday afternoons, coffee houses were a home to vivid cultural life. In recent years many impressive places have been restored to their original splendour and give a new life for coffee culture. "While sipping my coffee, I contemplate the fine interior and travel back in time to the beginning of the last century when Budapest was the city of cafes."
